FAQ

Common Questions About Pricing
1. How long will a fire alarm last?

A good fire alarm will last you about 10 to 12 years if properly maintained. Even if your fire alarms appear to be working, you should have them replaced after this time if you don’t want to jeopardise your building’s fire safety. Furthermore, technological advancements are increasing the effectiveness of fire alarms every day, and you don’t want to be stuck with an outdated model that won’t keep you as safe as possible.

2. What is the difference between conventional and addressable fire alarms?

The most significant distinction between conventional and addressable fire alarms is customizability. Conventional fire alarms are mounted on the wall or ceiling and sound individually when smoke or fire is detected, making them ideal for small buildings such as individual offices or retail stores. Addressable fire alarms, on the other hand, provide detailed information about individual detectors, which is invaluable if your office is part of a larger structure or complex.

Addressable fire alarm systems can be configured to have different alarm thresholds for different devices based on their location. Addressable fire alarm systems are typically more expensive than traditional alarms, but the additional information they provide to firefighters and building managers is priceless.

3. Do I need a fire alarm system if I have a fire sprinkler system installed?

Yes, fire alarm systems are highly effective, but they only operate after the fire starts. Sprinkler systems only activate once the heat has reached certain levels. Fire alarms detect fires before they start, resulting in an earlier warning and increased safety. They can also automatically alert the fire department.

4. Why does my fire alarm constantly chirp or beep?

“When the batteries in most smoke alarms run low, they will chirp at regular intervals.”

If your fire alarms seem to be making random noises, one of several things could be happening:

The fire alarm cover may be dirty – dust and dead bugs can accumulate in the sensor chamber of your fire alarm over time, causing it to chirp. Maintain the cleanliness of the sensor chamber (the easiest way to do this is to vacuum it out every time you change the batteries). If the room where you want to install the smoke detector is particularly dusty, install an ionisation fire alarm to protect it from the dust.

Most new electronic fire alarms come with logic boards that tell the alarm to chirp when the battery runs low. Sadly, changing the battery does not always stop the chirping! To ensure that the smoke detector works properly, you may need to press the RESET button.

Power to the fire alarm has been disrupted – a power surge may have disrupted power to the fire alarm, causing it to chirp when power is restored. The problem should be resolved by pressing the RESET button.

If all else fails, replace the fire alarm. Fortunately, fire alarms are reasonably priced, and replacing them is simple.

5. What are the different types of fire alarm system?

“There are four types of Fire Alarm System.
1. Addressable Fire Alarm Panels,
2. Conventional Fire Alarm Panels,
3. Wireless Fire Alarm Panels,
4. Hybrid Fire Alarm Panels”
